Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.

BAM is seeking a Lead Web Developer to manage implementable strategies for using new and engaging technology to increase traffic, visibility, and conversion rates for BAM and the BAM.org web presence. The qualified candidate will develop custom web/mobile applications to implement BAM business initiatives. The selected candidate will coordinate, and supervise all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of web/mobile applications and assure their high availability. The qualified candidate will work closely with Director of Information Systems and Digital Media managers to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective digital/web-based technology solutions for BAM.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and develop business functionality in multi-tier web solutions while improving code quality and infrastructure.
• Manage design, development, documentation, and/or testing of code to ensure strong usability, optimization, and functionality
• Manage all code development, whether custom-built in-house or part of efforts to integrate third-party applications. This includes providing coding standards for third-party developers
• Define Testing, Quality Assurance, and Change Management procedures for development projects
• Provide application-level support for the BAM.org websites and be able to address and troubleshoot issues
• Represent BAM web technology to the art development community.
• Act as mentor and web technology expert to other technical staff.
• Provide technical consultation on software and/or hosted web solutions to other internal projects
• Provide backup assistance to the IT department during Tessitura upgrades.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. This role will require movement throughout multiple facilities and venues; minimal local travel may be required. Ability to work evenings and weekends on an as-needed basis. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or related field) and 3 years of professional experience OR 5 years of professional experience
• ASP.NET (C#) experience (at least 5 years)
• Familiarity with Agile methodology (SCRUM preferred)
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in web development
• Experience with HTML/CSS (Sass), MS-SQL, REST, and JavaScript (jQuery a plus)
• Experience using Web Services and web APIs
• Experience with server architecture, workflow, source control (AWS w/Code Pipeline, Visual Studio, GIT)
• Experience using Content Management Systems (EpiServer CMS a plus)
• Modern JavaScript frameworks (not essential, but a plus)
• Awareness and comfort with social networking, open-source, and hosted web platforms
• Interest in working at a non-profit or arts organization
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• BAM administrative staff will be required to show proof of vaccination to enter the buildings as teams transition back to fully in-person operations.
• Must have the ability to comply with the NYC COVID-19 vaccination mandate

COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is 90-95k per year. BAM provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan opportunities including both 401(k) and pension plans, as well as BAM-related benefits including access to BAM's fantastic programming. This position is a union position that will be paid in accordance with the UAW 2110 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
