Talent Acquisition Specialist (In-house Recruiter)

Location: Brooklyn, NY

BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideasóengaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.

We are searching for a Talent Acquisition Specialist to manage recruiting, hiring and onboarding for all new staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Recruiting

  • Oversee full-cycle recruiting process including advertising, interviewing, assessment
  • Review and improve recruiting and on-boarding processes in order to promote communication, comfortable transitions and the swift hiring of new staff members 
  • Research and pursue new possibilities for the sourcing of candidates to ensure a vast and diverse pool of candidates
  • Coach hiring managers to make effective hiring decisions
  • Develop new and effective methods of evaluating candidates
  • Ensure adherence to BAMís recruiting standards
  • Work directly with candidates, hiring managers, and teams to schedule interviews & provide information
  • Act as leader and champion for anti-oppression work
  • Edit and evaluate job descriptions 
  • Review resumes and screen potential candidates      
  • Conduct hiring fairs at BAM and externally
  • Represent and promote BAM to potential hires
  • Evaluate and recommend FLSA status of positions
  • Assist hiring managers to create & administer skills tests as needed
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts to help identify and source qualified staff
  • Perform Reference Checks; run and analyze background checks
  • Maintain BAM HRís social media presence 
  • Train hiring managers regarding compliance and best practices of recruiting and hiring 
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards and legal regulations
  • Maintain data accuracy in ATS  

Onboarding

  • Guide hiring managers through onboarding process
  • Complete HR onboarding tasks - including but not limited to onboarding paperwork, departmental notifications, HRIS activation, and new hire orientation
  • Prepare and distribute all pre-hire materials including offer letter and other onboarding information

Volunteer Program

  • Develop and grow BAMís volunteer program
  • Oversee scheduling of volunteer shifts
  • Recruit volunteers
  • Onboard and train all volunteers
  • Act as point of contact for all volunteers
  • Be present at volunteer events

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of recruiting experience
  • Strong computer and technology skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective organizational and project management skills
  • Able to provide hospitable service to candidates and BAM employees, while maintaining BAMís standards
  • Periodically available to work evenings
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maturity
  • Ability to forge relationships with hiring managers, gaining their trust in your judgement and guidance
  • Ability to accomplish tasks without direct oversight
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively to external and internal stakeholders

Salary: Commensurate with experience.  Comprehensive benefits package including pension.
